Frequently Asked Questions about Laser Rental

What is the difference between “dry hire” and “full service” laser rental?

With dry hire, only the technical equipment is rented, such as laser projectors, cabling, and control systems. The renter is responsible for transport, professional installation, programming, and safe operation. With a full-service rental, the provider handles the entire process, including planning, on-site personnel (technicians and operators), and all regulatory and safety requirements.

Do I need a laser safety officer when renting a laser?

Yes. Whenever show lasers of classes 3R, 3B, or 4 are operated in public, the presence—or at least prior approval—of a certified laser safety officer is legally required. This ensures that the system is installed correctly and that there is no risk to the audience or to airspace safety.

Can show lasers be rented for outdoor use?

Yes. There are dedicated outdoor laser systems with IP ratings (such as IP65) that make them dust-tight and protected against water jets. These systems can be used outdoors without additional weather protection. When renting lasers, it is important to clearly specify the location and required level of weather resistance.

What technical requirements must be met at the venue?

In addition to a stable power supply (Schuko or CEE connectors, depending on the system output), a secure mounting position is required. It must also be ensured that minimum safety distances between the laser source and the audience can be maintained. For beam shows, the use of haze or fog machines is strongly recommended.

How are rented show lasers controlled?

Modern rental laser systems offer a variety of control options. The most common interfaces are DMX or Art-Net for integration into lighting consoles, as well as ILDA for professional control via dedicated laser software. Many high-end systems also feature integrated media servers, allowing direct control via network-based protocols.
