An enchanting light show in the heart of Istanbul!
The Maiden’s Tower is THE landmark of Istanbul. As part of a comprehensive renovation of the tower, Berlin-based lighting designer Martin Kuhn was commissioned by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to stage an 8-minute show that uses light, lasers and sound to tell the story of the tower over the centuries.
With the help of in-depth research, Martin Kuhn has managed to create a meaningful show that clearly expresses the significance of this building for the city.
As the tower is visible from all sides of Istanbul, the show was designed as a 360° experience. In line with the desire for the show to be visible from as far away as possible, the lighting and lasers were chosen to be as powerful as possible. Martin Kuhn has worked with laserfabrik for many years and therefore cooperated closely with Daniel Brune and the laserfabrik team during the design and implementation phase.
A total of 18 laser projectors from LaserAnimation Sollinger were installed, eight of which are hidden inside the walls on the sides of Maiden's Tower. A projection laser is moved to the correct position for the graphic projection using a hydraulic lift as soon as the show is due to take place. Eight other devices create a 360° beam image on the roof of the building as well as a 70 watt unit that connects the Maiden Tower with the Galata Tower on the banks of the Bosphorus.
In total, this show offers a beautiful light experience twice a night, fully automatically, right in the heart of Istanbul, inviting you to linger and admire.
